Two Major Storms Challenge Staff With Two Feet Of Snow And Hundreds Of Fallen Limbs

clearing ice damage A major storm came through December 18-20, dropping two feet of snow on Grandfather Mountain. Crews were still clearing snow from the paths when an ice storm arrived on Christmas Eve, coating surfaces with half an inch of ice and downing trees and limbs all across the Mountain. Crews used chain saws to clear the road to the summit while they awaited the arrival of the power company. The attraction remains closed to visitors as of December 31st. Read more.

Mayberry and Grindstaff Selected By Peers For Customer Service Awards

customer service award winnersAssistant Restaurant Manager Madge Mayberry was selected by her peers to receive the Martha award for providing exemplary service to Grandfather's visitors and Maintenance staffer Andrew Grindstaff was honored with the Bill Award for service to his fellow employees. top shopTop Shop Update

Major storms during the month of December severely limited access to the top of Grandfather Mountain and interfered with Greene Construction's ability to work on the new Top Shop. That did not keep Skip Greene and his boys away from Grandfather though. The Greene Team turned their energies to helping Grandfather's staff clear limbs and trees, bringing a chipper to grind up vast quantities of tree litter. Read more about it.
