Grandfather Mountain Launches Spanish Language Website

Spanich webpageEvery year around the Christmas season the numbers of Spanish-speaking visitors to Grandfather Mountain swell perceptively. And because Grandfather Mountain wants those Spanish-speaking guests to feel welcome, a new Spanish translation of the Grandfather website has been launched.

“I could not have even begun this project without the help of Señorita Spanglish,” said Grandfather Webmaster Catherine Morton. “She has been great to work with and I hope she realizes what an important service she is providing by helping our business communicate with a significant segment of our audience.”

Nancy DanielsSeñorita Spanglish is Nancy Daniels of Vienna, Georgia. Daniels, who has taught Spanish for 23 years, took on the challenge of translating the Grandfather website at the behest of Grandfather Director Jim Morton. Morton even encouraged Daniels to turn her linguistic talent into a business and helped her launch her own website, www. senoritaspanglish.com.

“I have been translating documents like legal papers and employee manuals for 20 years, but this is my first website,” Daniels said.

“I like the challenge,” she continued. “With a website you are being challenged by new vocabulary and there is something new on every page. I never realized there was so much to learn about Grandfather Mountain.”

Daniels is excited to see her first translations hit the World Wide Web. “It is such a wonderful form of communication because you are reaching out to so many millions of new people. When they read something in their native language it really brings it home and touches them deeper.”

Although not every word available on the English version of Grandfather’s site was translated, Morton and Daniels set out to convert all of the content a visitor would need in order to plan a visit to Grandfather Mountain.

“When people phone for information, one of the main questions they have is ‘What is Grandfather Mountain,’” said Catherine Morton. “It is challenging enough to give callers a complete picture without a language barrier. I feel much more helpful now that I know there is someplace our Spanish-speaking friends can go to get the information they want in a language they can understand.”

Daniels expanded on that idea saying, “It’s such a huge friendly gesture to speak to people in their native language. Grandfather Mountain is all about inviting people to visit and making people feel welcome. This is really a very meaningful move on their part.”
