Welcome to a Righteous Mountain

MacRae Peak"Righteous" is a fitting adjective for Grandfather Mountain because this magnificent landmark is one of the few places in the Southeast that remains in "right relationship" with creation. Indeed, when conservationist John Muir visited Grandfather in 1898 he described the experience as, "the face of all Heaven come to earth."

Grandfather Mountain has been a wildlife sanctuary and nature preserve for over 100 years. The management of the Mountain seeks to steward the property in a way that protects the natural wonder of the geographic landmark AND offers the general public access to its fantastic scenery.

Guests to the attraction can rest assured that Grandfather Mountain is diligently working to conserve its valuable resources while searching for new ways to interpret its wonders for the public.

What People Say…

" I had not been to Grandfather Mountain since I was a little girl and it was even more beautiful than I remember. The fall colors were absolutly breathtaking. It's scenery like that at Grandfather Mountain that reminds us that there are more important things in life than our daily trials and tribulations. Thank you for the wonderful experience! "
