Welcome to a Righteous Mountain

MacRae Peak"Righteous" is a fitting adjective for Grandfather Mountain because this magnificent landmark is one of the few places in the Southeast that remains in "right relationship" with creation. Indeed, when conservationist John Muir visited Grandfather in 1898 he described the experience as, "the face of all Heaven come to earth."

Grandfather Mountain has been a wildlife sanctuary and nature preserve for decades. The management of the Mountain seeks to steward the property in a way that protects the natural wonder of the geographic landmark AND offers the general public access to its fantastic scenery.

Guests to the attraction can rest assured that Grandfather Mountain is diligently working to conserve its valuable resources while searching for new ways to interpret its wonders for the public.

What People Say…

" President Theodore Roosevelt said one must visit the Grand Canyon before they die. I say one must also visit Grandfather Mountain. They are both "Grand." I lost my father to cancer many years ago and now I have a terminally ill mother. Going to the top of the mountain & crossing the bridge to the rocks I finally felt at peace. I was so proud of my 7 year old son crossing the Swinging Bridge on his first attempt. "
