Man & Biosphere

biosphere exhibitA new exhibit that explains what it means for Grandfather Mountain to have been selected to the international network of biosphere reserves was installed in the Nature Museum over the winter.

“Extending from the top of the tallest trees to the depth of the deepest roots is a thin layer over the earth, called the biospohere,” the panel reads. “If left undisturbed, all of these inter-dependent life forms will achieve a perfect balance.”

The panel goes on to explain how the staff of Grandfather Mountain works to maintain this balance, protecting the habitats of more than 60 rare and endangered species and 16 distinct ecological communities.

What People Say…

" I had not been to Grandfather Mountain since I was a little girl and it was even more beautiful than I remember. The fall colors were absolutly breathtaking. It's scenery like that at Grandfather Mountain that reminds us that there are more important things in life than our daily trials and tribulations. Thank you for the wonderful experience! "
