Black-Eyed Susan
(Rudbeckia hirta)

Bright orange-yellow ray flowers or "petals" contrast with the dark brown disk flowers in the center of the 2-3 inch flower head of these often-cultivated, scabrous annuals.

Native to the central Atlantic region, these plants are common on roadsides and in the old fields, pastures and meadows of the mountains. July-September.
