Pink Lady Slipper
(Cripripedium acaule)

Native perennial orchid whose lower petal forms a moccasin-like pouch 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Grow in large colonies in low pinelands and bogs. Like most orchids, this plant will grow only when certain fungi or molds are present in their roots. Late May, early June.
