Beary Scary Halloween

Celebrate Halloween at Grandfather Mountain!

Activities will include nature programs, Halloween-themed crafts, a costume contest, trick or treating in the animal habitats, an animal enrichment and the chance to participate in an interactive program titled “Going Batty for Bats.”

Programs are included with park admission. Children in costume get in for half price!

10:30a.m.-1:00p.m. Crafty Crafts!  Visit the crafts table in the Museum to make your own spider house and/or bat.
11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Trick or treat!  Come trick-or-treating with the animals and their keepers in the Animal Habitats.
11:30a.m.-12:30p.m. Going Batty for Bats!   Learn all about bats and why they are so important  during this fun, interactive program. Meet in the Nature Museum Sunroom.
12:30p.m.–1:00p.m. Fatten Up for Fall Come learn what it takes to survive the winter as a bear by becoming a bear yourself! Meet in the Nature Museum at the Mildred the bear statue.
1:00p.m.–1:30p.m. Animal Enrichment Decorating!  Come help the keepers decorate Halloween pumpkins and other treats to give to the animals. Meet at the covered picnic shelter next to the Nature Museum.
1:00p.m.–2:30p.m. Creepy, Crawly Critters!  Visit the Naturalists in the Museum to learn about creatures of the night, creatures that bite and other “spooky” animals.
1:30p.m.–1:45p.m. Kids Costume Contest! Kids get a chance to show off their wild side.  Prizes will be awarded! Meet in the Nature Museum Auditorium
2:00p.m.–2:45p.m. Treats for the Animals!  Walk along with the keepers as the animals get their Halloween treats previously decorated by you.  Enrichments start at the Deer Overlook at 2:00.
2:45p.m.–3:30p.m. Animal Encounter!  Come meet and learn about a few spooky prowlers.  Meet in the Nature Museum Auditorium.

  • I have been going to Grandfather for 39 years now. My Grandfather used to hike on Grandfather before it was an attraction for visitors. He would pick berries to sell so he could buy shoes for himself. We loved the old swinging bridge, but love the new one too. Now that I have my own child, I share the same tradition with him that our family has always participated in...keep up the good work!! Love the experience of Grandfather!
