Mark and Cecil are part of the music program at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center in Boone that features weekly lessons and an old-time jam session on Thursdays. They will be playing and singing family-friendly traditional songs and tunes from the southern mountains.
1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Woods Walk Exploration  This short loop hike at the “Woods Walk” will be guided by one of Grandfather Mountain’s staff naturalists.  We will be looking for evidence of animal activity. This is an easy trail and everyone is invited to join the fun.
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Mountain Song and Storytelling with Glenn Bolick (Nature Museum Auditorium) Glenn is locally renowned storyteller, potter, singer, musician, and songwriter. 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Butterfly Program (Butterfly Garden) This is a very hands on program where staff naturalists lead guests to the Butterfly Garden to catch different species of butterflies and identify them. Guests and staff will then take a look at these delicate creatures up-close and learn about their life cycle.

  • I picked up my 6 year old son from school  and asked him if he could guess where I was gonna take him to spend the weekend. With eyes big and wide he asked, Grandfather Mt? I have never seen him get so happy. Or should I say, pumped up to the max. He thanked me over and over again, while packing for the night in the wild. As with most things in life can be, this was a gift that did not fade away or break like most  presents after minutes of play.  As we got closer  to the top he expressed his deepest thanks, I saw my boy grow up this weekend. I pushed him and he pushed me and together we made it all the way from 105 to the Swinging Bridge.  "Get Out More.  Make memories, not regrets."
