The area hit widespread peak this weekend and the blue skies continue today making it another beautiful autumn day.  The area around Linville Falls (milepost 316 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) has abundant color as illustrated in this Skip Sickler photo taken at the Picnic Area.

Elevations above 4,500 feet are past peak but most of the region is at its best right now.  Particularly nice spots are the drive on NC 105 between Boone and Linville; the towns of Todd, West Jefferson and Spruce Pine and the area surrounding the Linville Gorge.

  • Grandfather Mountain you're big and you're high.  It seems that your shoulders help to hold up the sky.  I will never forget you till the day that I die.   Oh I will keep those old memories alive.

If you have never been there a beauty so wild and so rare, it could even rival a rose.  And on a clear day from the top of his head, you can see clear to Charlotte below.
