The area hit widespread peak this weekend and the blue skies continue today making it another beautiful autumn day.  The area around Linville Falls (milepost 316 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) has abundant color as illustrated in this Skip Sickler photo taken at the Picnic Area.

Elevations above 4,500 feet are past peak but most of the region is at its best right now.  Particularly nice spots are the drive on NC 105 between Boone and Linville; the towns of Todd, West Jefferson and Spruce Pine and the area surrounding the Linville Gorge.

  • I have been going to Grandfather for 39 years now. My Grandfather used to hike on Grandfather before it was an attraction for visitors. He would pick berries to sell so he could buy shoes for himself. We loved the old swinging bridge, but love the new one too. Now that I have my own child, I share the same tradition with him that our family has always participated in...keep up the good work!! Love the experience of Grandfather!
