The area hit widespread peak this weekend and the blue skies continue today making it another beautiful autumn day.  The area around Linville Falls (milepost 316 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) has abundant color as illustrated in this Skip Sickler photo taken at the Picnic Area.

Elevations above 4,500 feet are past peak but most of the region is at its best right now.  Particularly nice spots are the drive on NC 105 between Boone and Linville; the towns of Todd, West Jefferson and Spruce Pine and the area surrounding the Linville Gorge.

  • My family and I visited from NJ. If you love nature, you will love Grandfather Mountain. It is a steep drive in your car, but worth it for a wonderful view. There is hiking at many different levels, animals and great picture taking. Enjoy!
