The area hit widespread peak this weekend and the blue skies continue today making it another beautiful autumn day.  The area around Linville Falls (milepost 316 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) has abundant color as illustrated in this Skip Sickler photo taken at the Picnic Area.

Elevations above 4,500 feet are past peak but most of the region is at its best right now.  Particularly nice spots are the drive on NC 105 between Boone and Linville; the towns of Todd, West Jefferson and Spruce Pine and the area surrounding the Linville Gorge.

  • It was the most breathtaking experience we ever shared as a family. Many memories were made as we hiked on the trails, crossed the mile high bridge and saw the views of this part of our state. We wanted to thank the locals who greeted us, welcomed us, and made our first visit the best! We will return. Great family vacation!
