Peak
Beauty of Fall Foliage
Fall
color comes early to the peaks of Grandfather,
so you don't have to wait until late in the month
to see spectacular foliage.
Colors
will be bright on the upper slopes from the 5th
to the 10th. Color at Grandfather will peak between
the 10th and 20th. At the end of the month, Grandfather
becomes a great vantage point for looking down
at color in the valleys.

How sweet it was on Wednesday, August
19th when the Grandfather Mountain Beekeepers
harvested their first batch of honey!
The Mountain's two hives produced enough
of the golden deliciousness this summer
for the team to draw off a little over
two gallons of the sweet treat for the
staff to enjoy. 
Dwight
Holland, principal designer of the Grandfather
Mountain wildlife habitats, was on the
Mountain for two weeks in August working
on upgrades and repairs to the animal
enclosures. As part of his chores, Holland
manufactured a number of artificial rocks
which are being used to mask walls and
fences from public view. 
The
exterior facade of the new Top Shop is
getting closer and closer to completion.
Within the next month and a half, the
scaffolding should come down and the approach
to the building should be tidied up and
paved. Hopes remain high that the facility
will be ready for occupancy early in 2010.
