Singing
On The Mountain
All-day
gospel sing and fellowship held in MacRae Meadows. Free admission.
The
flamboyant Catawba Rhododendron is abundant
all across Grandfather Mountain during
the month of June. Blooms have already
appeared at MacRae Meadows (elv. 4,300
ft.) and will be open at the Swinging
Bridge (elv. 5,280 ft.) by late June.
Join our naturalists for the "Remarkable
Rhododendron Ramble" and participate
in special programs and activities that
celebrate the history, botany and lore
of this fun flower. 
The
Reverend Freida Hartley Hobson, pastor
of the Forest Hill United Methodist Church
in Concord, North Carolina, will bring
the message at the 85th annual "Singing
on the Mountain." The Reverend Hobson
is the granddaughter of "Singing"
founder Joe L. Hartley which makes her
uniquely qualified to lead the faithful
as they celebrate the longevity and tradition
of her grandfather's vision.
The
look of the Top Shop has changed a lot
in May as the walls are beginning to go
up and the floors are in on all three
levels. Masons have begun putting the
rock face on one small section of the
first floor as a sample of things to come,
and the entire site is buzzing with a
sense of progress being made after a long,
cold winter.
