Keeper For a Day and Behind-the-Scenes Habitat Tours Now Available

behind the scenes tour Two new exciting programs will allow guests a special peek at the not-so-public side of life in Grandfather Mountain’s wildlife habitats: Behind the Scenes habitat tours and Keeper for a Day program. Guests can choose just how familiar they want to become with the animals when choosing between the 1.5 hour guided tour and the opportunty to shadow Grandfather's keepers for six hours. Over One Hundred Fifty E-Club Members Matched Wits In Winter Weather Contest

Karen SalackiKaren Salacki of Rocky Mount, NC outplayed 151 other contestants to win the 2009-2010 Grandfather Mountain winter weather contest. Other competitors answered nearly as many questions correctly, but Salacki's were the only predictions to be EXACTLY correct for the coldest temperature of the winter and for the month in which the most snowfall would be measured. The push is on to get the facility ready to open on Memorial Day weekend. The contractor will be "handing over the keys" to the first floor early in May so Grandfather employees can start stocking shelves and setting up the point of sales system. Pink-shell Azalea in Bloom

The world's largest natural population of the pink-shell azalea is found on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain, covering the peaks in pink clouds from mid to late May.

Joins us for two days filled with guided hikes and presentations on Grandfather's birds, wildflowers and nature. Included with park admission.
