Amber Mowery Assumes Role Of Trails Manager As Luke Appling Joins State Park Staff

Luke Appling & Amber MoweryLuke Appling, former Grandfather trails manager and head of the Grandfather green team, has resigned his position with the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation to become a ranger at Grandfather Mountain State Park. Naturalists "Find" Hundreds Of Mineral Specimens In Storage Building

Hundreds of gems and minerals left over from the development of the Nature Museum exhibits were recently discovered in a storage locker. Grandfather's naturalists have enlisted the help of two ASU geologists to catalog the specimens and prepare a traveling exhibit that can be shared with youngsters in area schools. Monarch Butterfly Programs Planned For September

monarch Visit Grandfather in September and bear witness to one of the most colorful and miraculous transformations in nature. Grandfather's naturalists have filled terrariums with Lepidoptera eggs and larvae so guests can watch as they morph from black-white-and-yellow-striped caterpillars through gold-trimmed jade-colored chrysalises to emerge as spectacular orange-winged Monarch butterflies. Bridge to Bridge Incredible Challenge

This 102-mile bike ride departs the Lenoir Mall and makes its way uphill to the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Registration required. Riders get sponsorships with proceeds benefiting the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation.
