Temperatures in January Varied to the Extreme!

Temperatures in January were anything but normal! The average high temperature for the first half of the month of 44.4 degrees was nine degrees warmer than usual and the average high temperature for the second half of the month of 29.9 degrees was five degrees colder than usual.

Four new daily high temperature records have been set so far this month.

All daily low temperature records in January are below zero degrees; no new daily low temperature records have been set in January 2007.

The all time highest temperature for the month of January at Grandfather Mountain was 65 degrees set January 30, 2002. The lowest temperature ever recorded in January was also the coldest temperature ever measured on the Mountain: minus 32 degrees on January 21, 1985.
