Jean & Joan Cooper

Mountain Profile: Jean & Joan Cooper

These are twins who enjoy being identical. Plus when it comes to their jobs at Grandfather Mountain, their attitudes are identically positive.

"I love my job and what I do," said Jean. “The busier the better.”

"I like all the stocking and keeping track of inventory," echoed Joan. “I love to put it out because I love to see it sell.”

Lacy & DakotaAt their home in Newland the twins have a pasture full of horses and a house full of basset hounds. When they aren’t riding Lacy & Dakota or hiking Grandfather Mountain (they've "hiked every trail every which way”), they might be in Kentucky touring horse farms in Lexington, hiking in Natural Bridge State Park, or riding horses in Cumberland Falls State Park.

Joan says the best part of working at Grandfather Mountain are the times they've gotten to help another person.

"One time two people came off the trail asking if there was a taxi service to take them back to their car," said Jean. "I was leaving for the day so I drove them back to the Profile Trail. They said I was their angel. That was very humbling."

They also enjoy the chance to meet other sets of twins from around the world and they correspond with many.

"Working at Grandfather Mountain is such a blessing," said Jean. "The location, seeing the beautiful wildlife, and we're treated with respect. Its a once in a lifetime place to work."
