Grandfather Mountain Winter Weather Contest

otters play in the snowThe Woolly Worm has made its prediction and all the weather experts are completing their forecasts for the coming winter, now it’s your turn.

Every winter at Grandfather Mountain proves to be an interesting one whether it is filled with the surprise of unseasonably warm weather or large amounts of snow. Predicting the weather and then waiting in anticipation to see what really happens has excited Grandfather Mountain employees for years in the form of a Winter Weather Contest.

The contest is a tradition among Grandfather Mountain employees who put in their predictions each year to win prizes and coveted bragging rights. For the second year the excitement has expanded to include a contest for the Grandfather Mountain E-Scape E-Club members.

All E-Club members are invited to fill out the Winter Weather Contest Form with their winter predictions and submit their answers online. The E-Club winter weather winner will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of Grandfather Mountain and the Top Shop weather station to see how data is collected for the US Weather Service.

The entry form is made up of a series of questions asking for predictions about the upcoming winter weather on Grandfather. Previous years’ winter weather is provided under each question to give the forecasters helpful hints in deciding their guesses for this season.

Many believe that winter is one of the most beautiful times to visit Grandfather Mountain because of the endless vistas and opportunities to see mountains covered in snow. Grandfather Mountain will be open all winter long, weather permitting, except Christmas day.

"Winter" for this contest is November 15 through April 15. Winners will be announced and notified by the end of April. All Grandfather Mountain Winter Weather online submissions are due by midnight on December 10, 2007.
