OCTOBER BRINGS DISCOUNTED BEHIND THE SCENES TOURS AT GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN

BTS Tour Oct OCTOBER BRINGS DISCOUNTED BEHIND THE SCENES TOURS AT GRANDFATHER MOUNTAINDuring the month of October, Grandfather Mountain Animal Habitats will be offering a discounted rate for Behind the Scenes tours.  The usual price of $30 per person will be lowered to $20 during this month.

Behind the Scenes habitat tours give the public an opportunity to see where the animals sleep, learn about what it takes to care for the animals year-round, observe a training session, and learn why the animals call Grandfather Mountain their home. The Mountain’s knowledgeable and experienced keepers will gladly answer any questions as they guide participants on their tour.

“We are very excited to introduce our guests to the animals we love and give them a better understanding of why the animals are here and why conservation is so important,” said Habitat Manager Christie Tipton.

Each tour takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes. There is no age limit but small children must be carried if they are not capable of walking on their own. The use of strollers is prohibited during the tour. Participants must be able to walk up and down steep terrain, wear closed-toe hiking or work boots, dress in layers and be willing to sign a waiver of liability.

Behind the Scenes tours are offered in October on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and on weekdays and Sundays at 1 p.m.  No tours will be offered October 9 or 23.

Admission to the park is separate.  To make a Behind the Scenes reservation before your trip, please call 828-733-8715.  Any remaining tour spots can be purchased on the day of at the Nature Museum Gift Shop.

  • I just wanted to say that Grandfather Mountain is truly one of the most beautiful places to visit! Last year on a vacation to the Apple Festival in Wilkesboro, my fiancee decided that the Mile High Swinging Bridge would be the perfect place to pop the question! We were half way across when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was beautiful!
